DIY Baby Products

As our due date draws closer to welcome our second daughter, everything is coming together! I’m finding the balance between tackling 1-2 project/prep items per day, and resting before birth and recovery.

These two DIY products are a favourite of mine, because they’re so easy to mix up with pantry staples, and save the cost (and extra additives) from commercial products.

The powder has been our go-to for redness the past 3 years with our first. Honestly, we rarely used the diaper cream past the first couple weeks of newborn life, the powder just worked so well to clear any irritation for our baby/toddler!

I firmly believe gentle skin products + a cleaner diaper brand is key to avoiding harsh diaper rashes in our little ones.

Baby Powder:

  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup arrowroot powder
  • ¼ cup oat flour*
  • 1 drop chamomile essential oil
  • 1-2 drops lavender essential oil

Whisk or blend and store in old spice jars with a shaker top (makes enough for two jars – one for home, one for the diaper bag).

*To make oat flour, simply blend some rolled oats in your home blender or food processor until a flour is formed and all flakes have been broken down. For this recipe, it works best to sift out the bran to avoid clogging your shaker for a faster diaper change.

Diaper Cream:

  • ¼ cup virgin coconut oil
  • ½ tsp aloe gel
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • 3 drops tea tree essential oil

Mix together thoroughly and store in a glass jar.
